British parents may be better off raising their children abroadPost by David Elliott on 24th December 2010 in Living abroad The UK is one of the worst places in the world to bring up
children, according to expat parents.
As part of HSBC Bank International’s annual Expat Explorer
Survey, over 4,100 parents who have undertaken international moving were asked about their experiences bringing up
children in different parts of the world. The results do not make good reading
for Brits, as the UK was bottom out of 14 countries.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Belgium was at the
other end of the list after scoring highly in areas such as the cost of raising
children and the type of educational opportunities available. Germany, Spain
and France also scored highly, but it seems parents won't be too keen on moving to America as the country only just managed
beat the UK by claiming 13th place.
Nick Windsor, HSBC Bank International’s chief executive,
said: “The low rank of the UK relative to other expat destinations to some
extent undermines traditional perceptions that more developed markets provide a
better setting for bringing up children.”
