Irish international movers head Down UnderPost by Cameron Davidson on 29th December 2010 in Immigration, Working abroad, Living abroad The number of people moving to Australia from Ireland to
find work has risen by 80 per cent since 2007, according to new figures.
An investigation by the Irish Independent also found that
the number of people moving to New Zealand has increased by 23 per cent since
2007, to 4,444 during the last financial year.
The newspaper says as many as 1,000 Irish nationals are
moving to the United Kingdom in search of work each month, and this figure is
expected to rise in the new year. Individuals with trades such as plumbers and
builders are likely to be keen to cross the water in the hope of finding work
connected to preparations for the 2012 Olympics.
And it would appear the flow of people from Ireland shows no
sign of slowing down. According to the country’s Economic and Social Research Institute,
international moving will cause the population of Ireland to shrink by 60,000
during 2011.
