Moving back home can be just as tough, says global nomadPost by David Elliott on 29th December 2010 in Working abroad, Living abroad For Brits, moving to Australia and countries on the other side of the world can throw up a variety of problems. Finding a new job, home and schools can be just the tip of the iceberg. However, according to one seasoned traveller, coming back home and moving to the United Kingdom after a period abroad can see people facing many of the same issues.
Writing in the Telegraph, expat Apple Gidley who describes herself as a “global nomad”, says repatriation can cause as many problems as moving to a new country.
She said: “Over the years I have seen people struggle with repatriation and the issues it can provoke, and too often support is not offered.
“Repatriation brings about a lifestyle change that can have many repercussions from unsettled children, to jobless spouses and hugely increased expenses to just not feeling at home, at home.”
Gidley says people need to allow time to readjust to life at home, just as they did when moving to a new country.
