Santa granted Canadian citizenshipPost by Cameron Davidson on 29th December 2010 in Immigration Father Christmas has become an official Canadian citizen, along with 100 others from 32 countries around the world. A special ceremony was held last week in Calgary, ahead of Santa’s annual trip around the world. Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney said the country’s past and future now belongs to all of those moving to Canada.
He said: “The Government continues to invest in measures that exercise Canada’s sovereignty and create more economic opportunities in the North.
“We want to ensure that Santa and all Northern peoples benefit from the considerable progress that has been made.”
Official figures released last week revealed that Canada has just experienced its highest level of immigration in one quarter for 40 years. During the third quarter of 2010, international relocation to Canada resulted in the country’s population increasing by almost 130,000 to over 34.2 million.
