Australia named leading global expat destination in surveyPost by Cameron Davidson on 3rd February 2012 in Living abroad, Working abroad Australians are celebrating after their country's image of offering a healthy lifestyle and a good work-life balance saw it named the favourite destination in the world for expats. The country came out top in the annual Expat Explorer survey compiled by the bank HSBC. More than seven out of 10 of the 3,385 migrants questioned picked Australia for its quality of life. The next two highest-ranking countries, the UK and the USA, scored within one percentage point of each other, but their appeal was based on the perceived financial benefits which could be accrued from moving there. HSBC's Australian head of retail banking and wealth management, Graham Heunis, said the report showed that, "while financial rewards and career prospects are obviously important, expats are putting lifestyle and well-being ahead of money, and Australia wins hands-down on this front." Reporting the findings, Theaustralian.com was understandably upbeat, and it pointed out: "The data is good news for Australia which is facing skilled labour shortages in general as the country confronts the biggest mining investment boom in its history."
