FedEx Express expands operating base in Germany

Post by David Elliott on 9th May 2012 in Industry news, Shipping

International parcel and mail carrier FedEx Express is to bolster its operations in southern Germany by opening three major new depots.

The new sites, in Ulm, Heilbronn and Villingen-Schwenningen, will join its four others in the state of Baden-Wuerttemburg, in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Mannheim.

Sorting and bundling of packages collected from regional customers will be carried out at these new offices, before they are forwarded around Europe and the rest of the world, Transportintelligence.com reported.

Besides Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Wuerttemburg is one of Germany's biggest sources of products for export, with America, China, France and Switzerland among the strongest markets for goods made in the state.

Carl Graham, managing director, operations for central and eastern Europe for FedEx, said: "With its strong export economy, Baden-Wuerttemberg is a highly attractive region for the company."
